Information
Senate Leader Veren submitted a Freedom of Information Request to the Supreme Court on the 21st of September 2026 at 12:27 PM UTC. On the 28th of September after 12:27 PM UTC, the Senate Leader had still not received a response from the Chief Justice.

Part 2, Section 3 of the Freedom of Information Act 2026 states that all FOI Requests must receive a response from the public authority within seven days. Furthermore, Part 2, Section 2(3)(1) of the same Act states that the Chief Justice shall be responsible for responding to FOI Requests submitted to the Supreme Court. Lastly, Part 2, Section 5 states that failure by the public authority to respond within the seven-day deadline shall constitute “an offense liable by prosecution for negligence of duties”.

The Department notes, as procedural background, that the Chief Justice just three days prior to the alleged breach of the FOI Act was issued a strike following a settlement with the Department of Justice in proceedings brought against him for publishing a judicial review four days after the law-mandated deadline.

The Department finds that there are sufficient grounds to proceed with prosecution against Chief Justice dreckly for an alleged violation of the Freedom of Information Act 2026, constituting Class B Negligence of Duties pursuant to Part 2, Section 5 of the aforementioned Act.
