Dessert Day in the White House
Today is National Dessert Day and to celebrate I am taking us through some of the classic desserts from around the world and asking our White Housers what they think of them. Starting of course with...
USA - Apple Pie
A staple all around the world but most of all in our beloved States. It can be done a hundred different ways with any apple, crust and spice you choose.

Canada - Tire d'érable / Maple Taffy
It is a classic treat made by boiling maple sap past the point of it becoming syrup and then puring it on to snow and picking it up with a stick, most commonly a popsickle stick, to be enjoyed in the cold weather.
England - Victoria Sponge
Two sponge cakes with some strawberry and cream, what's not to love?
Sweden - Kladdkaka
A sticky gooey chocolate cake that is so good that you'll never want to stop baking it, Lava Cake is simply not even close to as good as this! ...not that I'm biased or anything.
Norway - Kvæfjordkake / Kvæfjord Cake
Also known as "verdens beste", meaning "the worlds best". It's a sponge cake with mirengue, vanilla cream and almond shavings. No matter what you think of the appearance of this cake - I urge you to try it!
Australia - Pavlova
Although there is a forever ongoing debate on if this dessert originated from Australia or New Zealand we can all agree it is a classic that cannot be overlooked. Mirengue, whipped cream and fruits. Delicious!
I thank you all for reading and I hope you all enjoyed this article. Now if you excuse me, I have a kladdkaka to bake!
